chabot imagestarchaser.co.uk: Starchaser Industries comment on the successful first X PRIZE flight by Scaled Composites.

“We would like to congratulate Scaled composites on their first successful ANASARI X PRIZE flight” said Steve Bennett, CEO Starchaser Industries, “this is truly an exciting time to live in” he added.

Scaled Composites have proved that with the support of forward thinking backers the private sector can develop a vehicle able to take people into Space. In the case of Scaled Composites this forward thinking backer was Paul Allen, one of the cofounders of Microsoft who donated $20 million (USD) to Scaled Composites to fund development of SpaceShipOne in pursuit of the $10 million X PRIZE.

Scaled Composites have also had the support of the US Government: In February this year US Congress approved amendments to the US Commercial Space Act of 2003. These amendments show that the US government recognises the important potential of commercial access to space and especially space tourism.

Scaled Composites now have to prepare for the second ANASARI X PRIZE flight, which has to be completed within a 2-week period. “We wish them well with the second attempt” said Steve Bennett, “they need to stay focused and ensure everything is ready for the next flight”.

Should Scaled Composites complete the second and winning ANASARI X PRIZE flight the real business of sub-orbital spacecraft development will begin, and regardless of who wins the ANASARI X PRIZE, access to space is about to become a reality for the masses.

“Starchaser are perfectly positioned to take advantage of the birth of a whole new industry, we are determined that Britain will play a major role in this new industry. Our long-term business plan is to develop safe, reliable, affordable and reusable access to Space for both the Space Tourism and micro-satellite launch markets”.
