This past Saturday we had two successful hot fire tests of the rocket motor under development for the project.
Bi-prop liquid is LOX and a 50/50 ethanol and methanol, built for a design goal of 500 pounds of thrust.

Congratulations Rick. Very impressive. I realize it's early days, but do you have a target date for a first launch yet? Also, do you know of any teams going for the liquid methane (LNG)/liquid oxygen (LOX) FAR-Mars prize? That bi-prop combination is particularly compelling for Mars missions returning to Earth.

Happy Thanksgiving Day,

Hi Jay,

We hope to fly it in 2018. The Mars Society kicked in an additional $50,000 if the winning team uses LOX-Methane for that very reason.

I mentor and advise several teams competing for the FAR-Mars Prize.

I am also starting up another competition at FAR to be held the following month in June. It will be open to all types of of rocket propellant.

We are currently installing more facilities at the FAR site including more bunkers, test stands, launch pads and work areas...and still just a $10 a day use fee.
